DIY Foosball Table Game and STEM Project for Kids

DIY Foosball Table

Looking for an engaging stem activity for kids? How about creating your own diy foosball table! This homemade foosball table is super simple to make and will provide hours of fun as your kids battle it out on the soccer field. all you need to make diy games for kids are a few simple materials you can find around your house. We have some suggestions for creating homemade game for kids, but use your imagination and get creative with this kids activity. This diy indoor games is perrect for preschoolers, kindergartners, and elementart age students in grade 1, grade 2, grade 3, grade 4, and up!

Homemade Foosball Table

This is such a fun project to make together from recycled materials and things you have laying around your house! Use what you have on hand, be creative! Here are some ideas to get you started:

• box (shoe, Amazon, cereal, etc)
• ping pong ball
• 10+ clothespins (plain or colored)
• wooden skewers or tinker toys
• sharpie markers
• tempera paint
• washi tape or cute duck tape

Summer Activities for Kids

After we had gathered our supplies, we painted the inside of our box with watshable green paint.

Summer Bucket List Ideas

Continue painting until well covered with paint. Allow it to dry thoroughly before moving on.

We thought this not only made it pop, but was authentic to the green grass soccer players compete on.  You can use any color you like!

DIY Games for Kids

Carefully use scissors to cut a hole on both of the smaller ends to be the goals.

Homemade Games for Kids

You can use more paint or construction paper to cover the exterior of your homemade game. We opted for orange construction paper for ours.

Kids Activity

On your completely dry box interior, use chalk or white pen to draw the midfield and goals at both ends.

Stem Activity for Kids

It’s time to create your clothespin players! You can use pre-colored ones or create your own. We used wikki tape to maek some fun patterns. You will want to make sure you have at leats 5 of each color (or more depending on the size of your box / game).

You can use sharpie to add faces ro features if you like. We opted for just pink/red versus blue/teal team.

DIY Indoor Games

Now it’s time to insert your wooden skewers and add your football players!

Depending on the thickness of your box you can use the pointy end of your skewers or scissors to carefully make holes to put the skewers through. You want the holes to be big enough to easily rotate the clothespins and evenly spaced so the 4 skewers are evenly spaced.

HINT: Test the skewer placement so the clothespin plaers can get close the bottom without scraping when spun.

Box Activities for Kids

Once the stick is on, you can clip your clothespin and hang the handle downward. Ensure they can all spin.

You want the players to be arranged like the picture above so the players are divided into 2 rors: one by the goal (goalie and defender) and 3 on the opposite side of the middle line (forwards).

Stem Project Idea

Grab a friend and try out your fun table-top game! The sticks shoudl slide back and forth to move the players right and left. The sticks should also turn or spin to kick the ping pong ball bakc and forth to try to make a goal!

Things to Do with a Box

If you use a bigger box you can do 3 lines of players each and have one goalie, 2 defenders, and 3 forwards more like the traditional game. But if you are keeping it small and manageable – this works great!

Activities for 3 year olds

With a little help, this activity for kids works as a great activities for 3 year olds! It is not only fun to create and decorate, but great for improving coordination and fine motor skills with younger children who are 3 and 4-year-olds.
