Probability Games
Teaching kids about probability for kids doesn’t have to be complicated! Probability is just a fancy term that means chance – what’s the chance you will draw a black card instead of a red card from a standard deck of cards – 1 out of 2 or 50%. We’ve included probability games for kids including roll and add blueberries to the pancakes, skittles probability, flip a coin probability, and build a pizza probability activity. Each of these probability activities for kids include a free probbility worksheet to round out the activity and ensure your students understand the concept. These probability math worksheets are perfect for kindergartners, grade 1, grade 2, grade 3, grade 4, grade 5, and grade 6 students.

Coin toss probability
The first probability for kids game is a fun, simple coin probability activity. Grab a coin – any coin will do. Children will learn about dependent and independent variables. When you toss a coin it doesn’t matter what the results are from the previous toss. So a coin toss is in independent variable. If you have a finite number of marbles in a bag, but when you draw one you pull it out. The impact of removing one changes the results of the next draw – that is a dependent variable.
Children will try with a small sample size of 12 tosses and a larger number of 30. They will learn how to make fractions from data and figure out the percent.
Simple probability games
The next activity helps students look at distribution as they whip up some blueberry pancakes by rolling a dice and adding blueberries to their pancakes. Students will also learn what an outlier is as they look at data from both 15 and 30 blueberries added randomly.

The third activity will have your student take a look at the probability of getting their favorite pizza topping by figuring out all the possible topping combinations. THey will also explore depenedent and independent variables!
HINT: There are 2 level choices for this activity.
Probability game
This final activity was the kids favorite. You need a package of skittles and the worksheet. You can use any size bag or make a small brown bag or handful of skittles. WE used a share size because that’s what I could find at the store. Use the 10 / 20 draws for a standard size size bag and the 2nd worksheet with 10/20/40 if you use the larger share size.
Probability activities
Students will start by figuring putting what color they like best or they think will have the most. Next they will draw a small sample (see worksheet page for number) and record the number they draw of each in the graph. Now draw more to get a larger sample (see worksheet page for numbers). Finally sort and count all the colors in the bag and record on the far right TOTAL column.
Now you can figoure out what percent each of the colors represented in the bag and how accurate each sample was. Take the numbe drawn and divide it by the total number in your bag.
- Was the smaller or larger sample size a better representation of the skittle bag make-up?
- What do you think would be a way we use this in real life? (political poles, side effects from medications, etc)
Now have your student figure out the percent the bag contained of their chosen color by first writing the fraction then dividing.
Researchers use graphs to analyze data. Graph your data. Which color did your bag have more of. You can have older students practice some math by figureing out the mode, mean, and medium.
