I is for Inchworm Theme with FREE Worm Observation Book

We mostly explored inchworms (worm emphasis) by measuring gummy works, using free worm printable, watching worms in our new worm farm, and more, but we also added in a fun Letter i Ice Cream letter craft too. The letter i theme is perfect for  students who want a fun, hands on way to play, explore and learn.

I is for Inchworm

I love doing a letter a week approach to learning the alphabet with my toddlers, preschoolers, and kindergartners. Not only do we have fun doing lots of letter i activities and letter i crafts, but it allows kids to really learn the letter name, letter sound, and begin to work on phonemic awareness and beginning sounds. This is our letter i lesson plan. We explored inchworms by measuring gummy worms, starting a worm farm, eating a dirt worm cup, making an inchworm construction paper craft, inchworm worksheets to reinforce literacy and math skills, and so much more!

Letter I Craft for Preschoolers

This was an eclectic “I” week. We started by making an Ice Cream letter I. We also enjoyed some delicious Ice Cream as a snack. (see our favorite 3 ingredient homemade ice cream recipe)

We used brown and pink craft foam sheets to make an uppercase letter I craft. We made an I out of the brown and used brown marker to make a crisscross pattern. Then we made a strawberry scoop of ice cream out of the pink sheet and glued it onto the top of the i. Super cute and easy alphabet craft!

Note: We ended up doing a lot of worm activities under the inchworm title. Inchworm is technically the life cycle stage of a moth and different from an earthworm like we observed in our worm observation kit.  Maybe this should have been a W is for Worm week, but Inchworm fit with our Preschool Pack and  Sing Spell Read & Write Language Arts Curriculum so we used it. But I wanted to just let you know there is a difference.

I is for inchworm craft

Minnie made an inchworm craft. We made strips of construction paper in green & yellow. Then she helped me staple them into interlocking circles. We added googly eyes and a sparkly pipe cleaner for antennae. Cute, right?

Worm Snack for Kids

Finally we had an inchworm snack! Doesn’t that look disgustingly good!
