The Shopify Fulfillment Network (SFN) is early in our mission to democratize fulfillment, but it's one we take very seriously. We can't carry out this mission without putting our merchants' needs first, and we think now is the perfect time to add a Transportation Specialist to the team who will manage inventory transfers and return packages.

The team that you'd be joining is working at the forefront of an incredibly exciting and complex Shopify product. This team is responsible for identifying, implementing, managing, and executing transportation operations for inventory transfers and return packages. We focus on Merchant delight by making our transportation operations faster, more reliable, scalable, greener, and at alower cost. When you think that our total merchant base is now in the millions of merchants in over 175 countries, you get an idea of just how complex this problem set is.NOW is the chance to get in on the ground floor. We need someone who thrives in ambiguous environments and can tackle tough problems in the transportation space. We want someone who is excited about transportation operations along with building new processes and routines for inventory transfers and return packages, thrives on driving daily execution, and can deep dive data to use KPIs and metrics to improve performance.

The role will work on the Transportation Operations Team managing inventory transfers and return packages, with strong partnership cross-functionally. This will include:
- Driving daily transportation execution with our carriers and warehouses, including monitoring and managing transportation performance (e.g., pick-ups, etc.) within the network to reduce service disruption and escalate pickup/delivery issues.
- Utilizing problem-solving methods to dive deep into weekly metrics and identify opportunities to close gaps.
- Developing and owning operational inventory balancing transfers and return package performance metrics, routines and processes. Identify areas to improve overall performance and drive continuous improvements across our operations to build the foundations and processes to scale our transportation operation.
- Work directly with 3rd party carriers to communicate and drive performance.
- Build a strong collaborative relationship with all internal (Partnerships, Merchant Facing Team, Planning & Operations) and external (3PL Warehouse Operations & Carrier Partners) parties through effective communication, conflict resolution, and compliance management
Qualifications
Our ideal candidate has:
- Experience with different modes of transportation such as to parcel, LTL, full/partial truckload, and return packages with a good understanding of mail classes, ship methods, transit days, and zones
- Background in logistics/transportation, carrier partnership development, and executing a logistics operations program, preferably in the e-commerce space
- Experience driving daily execution with a commitment to solving problems quickly and working cross-functionally to get things done.
- Experience with KPIs and metrics and ability to dive in and identify gaps and opportunities.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and experience with some problem-solving methodology (e.g, 5Ys, or Kaizen, etc).
- Excited to build from the ground up and able to create new tools and processes.
- Ability to manage initiatives and work cross-functionally to get results.
- Thrives in ambiguity and a fast-paced environment. Ready to jump in anywhere.
