HINT: You can have your children decorate the gameboards with crayons, markers, or colored pencils if you like. Personally, I think the blackline pops with the bright, bold color of Lego blocks!

Multiplication Game

This cool math checkers has several choices depending on the age of your child. My kids have been skip counting since they were in Kindergarten as part of our Classical Conversations curriculum. This activity helps take skip counting to the next level by helping children learn to solve individual equations without having to go through the entire skip counting song or pattern to get to the answer. This is great for achieving math fluency they will need in higher math.

There are various checkers cool math gameboard choices included are:

  • multiplying by 0s, 1s, 2s
  • multiplying by 5s and 10s
  • multiplying by 3s and 4s
  • multiplying by 6s and 7s
  • multiplying by 8s and 9s
  • multiplying by 11s and 12s
  • multiplying by 13s, 14s, and 15s
  • multiplying by all numbers 1-15s

Multiplication games

Grab whatever free printable math game you want to practice. You will also need 12 Lego bricks each; each player should pick a different color. Now set-up your game board like a typical checkers game. As you put the lego pieces on the board you need to say the equation and product you get before you can put your piece on the gameboard.

HINT: If you don’t have lego blocks, you can use buttons, skittles, M and M’s, erasers, etc. Making it a candy multiplication game is also a really fun way to get kids excited about learning!

Math checkers

Take turn moving your pieces to get to the other side of the board. If you can jump the other players piece just pull the pieces off the gameboard. If they make it to your home base they get to king their piece. Do so by adding a lego minifigure to the top or adding a block to the bottom of their piece. Their game token can now move both forward and backwards, giving it a real advantage.
The best part is that kids will get lots of practice because they have to solve the math equation before they can move to the new space.
